Breckenridge has crowned its 61st Ullr King and Queen, longtime locals Sally and Jere Lynch.
The two donned their royal garb this afternoon on Main Street Breckenridge, just a few blocks down from where they met – the Gold Pan Saloon in the ‘70s.
“We decree that there shall be peace and harmony in the Kingdom,” the Lynch’s wrote in a proclamation. “May the smiles be big and wide, the snow deep and light like cold smoke, and the rivers run wild and free forever.”
Since 1963, when Ullr Fest debuted as Ullr Dag, locals have referred to their little slice of heaven as the Kingdom of Breckenridge.
Sally and Jere weren’t around for the first Ullr parade, but they have not missed one since 1975. That was the year they met on the most famous dance floor in Breck, when Sally was new to town, and Jere had been here just five years.
“I’ve always appreciated Ullr and the energy that comes to town, there’s no question about that,” Sally said.
Adds Jere, “It’s really important to have unique events that bring the town together.”
Ullr Fest continues all weekend with events and live music.
