Breckenridge is pitting pros against amateurs at the new Rockstar Energy Open, coming to Peak 8 for Ullr Fest weekend Dec. 19-21.
Headlining the contest are Olympic champs Mark McMorris, Red Gerard and Jamie Anderson, plus X Games heavyweight like Zeb Powell and Ellie Weiler, along with Rockstar athletes Iris Pham and Colorado’s own Nik Baden.
Taking them on for cash and bragging rights are snowboarders from every corner of the globe, selected during a weeks-long video contest. Pros and ams are throwing down on a modified “park style” course, Frankensteined together with slopestyle, quarterpipe and rail features (rumor has it there might even be a true halfpipe option in there somewhere…)
Also taking center stage, down on Main Street Breckenridge, is New York DJ Westend and Aussie DJ Torren Foot.
Oh and did we mention it’s all free?? In person AND the live-stream. Come early on Thursday, Dec. 18 for the iconic Ullr Fest Parade on Main Street.
Friday, Dec. 19 | Day 1
Opening day is a rail jam at the base of Peak 8 starting at 3:30 p.m. But all day long you can watch practice on the modified slopestyle course. Lap the 5 SuperChair for a bird’s-eye view of the action.
On the cobblestones at Peak 8 is a vendor village with food, drinks and swag. Catch Torren Foot playing a bonus DJ set from 4:30-5 p.m., right after the rail jam.
Take the gondola back down to Main Street and Blue River Plaza (across from the Riverwalk Center) for a film fest from 6:30-7:30 p.m, then DJ sets until 9 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 20 | Day 2
The first day of park style begins at 9:15 a.m. at the Peak 8 park, when the video qualifiers compete for a chance to ride with the pros. The top-4 men and women move on to semi-finals.
