Veteran snowmaker busted in underage sex sting

A career snowmaker is accused of paying for underage sex.

William LeClair, 62, known locally as Bill, was caught last week during an undercover sting in Summit County. He is charged with five felonies, including attempted sex assault on a child, soliciting child prostitution and cybercrime.

For over two decades LeClair worked on snowmaking teams at Keystone Resort and Arapahoe Basin.

Five Summit law enforcement agencies partnered with state authorities on this sting, what Summit County Sheriff Jaime FitzSimons calls the second operation in a campaign to “combat human trafficking.”

LeClair posted $25,000 bond on March 14, according to the sheriff’s office. He is due in local court tomorrow morning.

On Facebook people want to know why the bond in this case was not higher. Writes one commenter, “a high risk to our helpless children, the Summit County Sheriff’s Department should have requested highest bond possible.”

Responds the sheriff’s office, “bond is a function of state law, we don’t determine when someone is released.”

In 2024, during the first coordinated sting, three men were arrested on nine underage sex charges. All three were given the same bond as LeClair. Summit Daily confirms two of three men in that case took plea deals for minimal jail time and five years of probation. Court records show the third man, Isaiah Brown, has a sentencing hearing in April.
