A former employee of Summit County government is accused of illegally spending county money on personal trips and out-of-state Escalades.
Summit County Sheriff’s Office reports the suspect worked for county transit. Over the course of at least several months she used a department purchase card on multiple unauthorized items, including DoorDash, Expedia, Apple Pay, hotels and an Escalade rental.
Sheriff’s detectives believe she racked up nearly $24,000 on those purchases. She was never caught because she was the person in charge of purchasing, which meant very little oversight.
A county human resources employee noticed the alleged theft in September of last year. By then the suspect had left her position and moved out of the state. When contacted by sheriff’s detectives, she told them some of the illicit items were returned, and then she denied knowing anything about other purchases.
Today the suspect is wanted for multiple felonies, including theft, embezzlement and unauthorized use of a financial transaction device.
Krystal 93 will not be naming the suspect until she appears in court on these charges.
