With a shotski over a half mile long, Breck reclaims the unofficial world record

In the opening hours of Ullr Fest yesterday, Breckenridge reclaimed the unofficial world record for longest shotski, beating Park City in a friendly feud that’s been going on for nearly a decade.

A record 1,420 people lined up on Main Street Breck, where they hoisted 507 skis measuring 2,489 feet – more than a half mile long. That beats the Park City record, set earlier this year, by 10 people.

It’s the ski town rivalry that keeps on giving. Breckenridge Distillery supplied the bourbon and Summit County Rotary supplied the beneficiary. Proceeds from the (unofficial) world record shotski support local scholarships and other Rotary programs.

Parade proposal for Ullr

Ullr Fest rolled on with the Ullr Parade, where the crew at Breckenridge Snow Plow and Heavy Equipment took first place – and $2,000 – with a float that doubled as a marriage proposal.

Claiming second and $1,500 was the Breck Create float, “Sustainable Sam the Abdominal Snowman,” created by local artist “Rowdy” Ali Nitka. She made an abominable out of old stuff.

Taking home third and $1,000 was the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center team, celebrating 50 years of adaptive sport.
