Woman arrested 1,100 miles from scene of fatal Edwards hit-and-run

A 24-year-old woman is the lead suspect in a fatal hit-and-run from nearly three months ago on U.S. Highway 6 near Edwards.

Authorities arrested Sidney Whitmarsh late last week in Clarendon, Arkansas. She is charged with three felonies, including vehicular homicide, for hitting and killing Mario Romero, 43, after dark in early January.

Colorado State Patrol believes Romero was cycling home from work when he was struck. His body was not found for nearly two days.

Whitmarsh is accused of fatally striking Romero and leaving the scene, and then tampering with evidence. His bicycle was not at the crime scene.

This was the first of two fatal hit-and-runs on U.S. 6 in Eagle County this year.

On March 5 John “Jack” Ladesic, 76, of Pennsylvania, was struck and killed in Avon, about a half-mile from the entrance to Beaver Creek. The suspect in that case remains at large.
