Election 2025: Meet Jackie Zheleznyak, a capitol lobbyist and mother of 2 for school board

Jackie Zheleznyak is the first to tell you: Politics and school boards do not mix.

Zheleznyak is a healthcare lobbyist for AdventHealth making her first run at public office as one of five candidates for Summit County school board. She comes into the race with no political affiliation.

She is doing it for her kids, currently students at Summit High and Summit Middle. But she also believes her background as a lobbyist could be an asset on the board. She has unique insight into school funding challenges and vows to spend wisely, saying this will “impact our ability as schools to survive and thrive.”

“The state of Colorado continues to see significant budget challenges,” Zheleznyak says. “I’d like to take my knowledge, expertise and ability to form strategy – to have strategic conversations – and help the district position itself in the best way possible to ensure we are doing the best we can for everyone in the school district.”

Krystal 93 news director Phil Lindeman talks with Zheleznyak about funding, and how Summit School District could be the best in the state.
