Just 2 Colorado ski areas claim more than 100 inches of snow this season

Colorado is breaking records for all the wrong reasons this ski season.

First came the balmy days of Christmas. Then, the weakest snowpack in recorded history, followed by the second-latest freeze for Dillon Reservoir.

Now, we bring you one of the leanest January snow totals in recent years.

January 2026 snow totals

  • Winter Park… 43 inches (111” total)
  • Vail… 37” (89” total)
  • BC…  37” (73” total)
  • Breckenridge… 34” (80” total)
  • Copper… 31” (86” total)
  • Loveland… 30” (92” total)
  • Keystone… 26” (88” total)

As of today, Feb. 2, just two Colorado ski areas claim more than 100 inches total this season and neither one is in Summit County.

Winter Park reports the most in Colorado with 111 inches. Steamboat is just barely there with 101 inches. Winter Park also claims the most new snow in the state last month with 43 inches.

The most snow on the I-70 mountain corridor this season goes to Loveland with 92 inches. This time last year they were sitting on 4 feet more than that (141 inches).

Breckenridge saw the most in Summit this January, 34 inches, more than a foot less than the previous season and half as much as the 2023-2024 season.

This time last year Breckenridge, Copper and Vail reported nearly twice as much total snowfall. Copper was creeping close to 200 inches total.

But the season ain’t over til it’s over, and this one is far from over. During the past two seasons February has been the second deepest of the year for most ski areas. In the winter of 1994-1995 the snow didn’t arrive until late and then never let up, burying Summit under feet of snow through April. And we all know what Mayuary can bring.
