Once a Tiger, always a Tiger with athlete-turned-assistant AD Haleigh Lecklitner

Fall sports season is off with a roar at Summit High School.

But what you see on the field is only half the story. Working hard behind the scenes is a former Summit High athlete, Haleigh Lecklitner, now in her first full year as assistant athletic director

While the coaches are coaching, she’s working with athletic director Bob Bodor to do all of this.

“Making sure that we have refs for the game, making sure we have parents that are willing to work the concession stand, working with our community partners and getting an opponent here,” she says. “If you’re at the (first home football) game there might even be foam fingers involved.”

That’s right – she’s ordering foam fingers to make sure the Tigers home opener against Canon City goes off without a hitch.

Lecklitner played soccer, basketball and rugby at Summit High. After leaving here she went to Knox College in Illinois, where she joined the club soccer team. She came back to Summit and still plays club soccer, but she admits she spends more time coaching than playing.

Why? Because she loves it.

“I’m definitely more confident because I was a Summit High School athlete,” she says. “I’m more resilient, caring, open minded.”

Coming back to her high school as an employee wasn’t always her game plan, but she has no regrets.

“Summit High School has changed over the years, but I will say that the people definitely haven’t changed,” she says. “I’m lucky and very proud to still call Summit High my home.”

Thanks again to the coaches, athletes and you, the sports fans, for tuning into fall Sports Kickoff Week.
