More than 55 miles of I-70 remains shut down from Silverthorne east to C-470, with no estimated time for reopening as of 9 a.m.
“The real problem is between Georgetown and Morrison,” says Summit Sheriff Jamie FitzSimmons on the Krystal morning show. “That includes Floyd Hill.”
I-70 west between Silverthorne and Vail is open.
Easily hundreds of cars and semis are still waiting out the storm in parking lots and on the roads.
Kevin is trying to make it to DIA for a flight to Florida.
“I’m feeling very, very frustrated because there’s a lot of money I have to spend already. Lots of crazy money and I don’t have much at the moment.”
Clint with Mountain Beverage was creeping through traffic in Silverthorne this morning. He came from Gypsum.
“It’s been pretty nice coming over. Just had to put some chains on up over Vail Pass. Everything was pretty smooth sailing both directions. A lot of snow though. It’s still coming down on top. And a lot of plows.”
Christian spent the night with his wife and two kids in their car at the Conoco on exit 205.
“I want to go to Denver, but we had to stay one night. Later we will try to go back. Got back to Houston.
A-Basin, Loveland closed
You know things are nasty when Arapahoe Basin and Loveland Ski Area cannot open on a snow day.
A-Basin is closed with more than 15 inches of fresh. Cops are turning people around at the base of US Highway 6.
Loveland is closed with more than 11 inches. Dozens of employees could not shuttle up from Silver Plume, Georgetown and Denver.
Shelters, schools and bus routes
Silverthorne Rec Center is open this morning as a warming shelter for stranded motorists. Stop by any time.
Summit School District is closed for the day.
Eagle County schools are open.
Most Summit Stage bus routes are running today. The route over Hoosier Pass into Fairplay is not running. Check the Summit Stage app for possible reopening later.
