Summit’s oldest school is on the chopping block

The oldest school in Summit School District could soon be torn down.

Permanently closing Breckenridge Elementary is one of three options on the agenda tonight for a parent meeting at Upper Blue Elementary School, the other elementary in Breck.

Breck is the only local town with two primary schools.

Closing Breck El means expanding Upper Blue. It would cost $29.9 million.

A second option is completely rebuilding Breck El for $43 million.

A third option is maintaining the building as is for upwards of $400,000 per year.

Breck El opened in 1972. Upper Blue opened in 1996.
