Breck co-founder Sigurd Rockne is going to the Hall of Fame

Norwegian ski legend and Breckenridge co-founder Sigurd Rockne joins the Colorado Snowsports Hall of Fame in 2024. He’s 91 years old and could bring three generations of family with him to the induction at Gerald R. Ford Amphitheater in Vail on September 7.

Here’s one of our favorite photos of Rockne with his friend and business partner, Trygve Berge, jumping a truck on skis at Breck in 1965 — just four years after the resort opened in 1961. Madmen!

We’re not alone. The Vail Daily talked to Jennifer Mason, executive director of the Colorado Snowsports Museum and Hall of Fame, who said it’s one of her favorite images of Colorado skiing, period.

Also joining the Hall this year: Lindsey Vonn (!!), Durango speed skier Ross Anderson, sport builder Bjorn Erik Borgen, and former U.S. Ski Team coach John McBride.
