Winds over 100 mph cut power to 3k in Summit, 94k statewide

The power is out for more than 3,000 homes in Summit County and nearly 95,000 east into the Denver metro area, after a brutal overnight windstorm battered Colorado with winds over 100 miles per hour, bludgeoning trees and smashing powerlines.

At 9 a.m. power is out in portions of Breckenridge, Frisco, Dillon and Silverthorne. Many have been without power for more than 12 hours as overnight temperatures fell into the teens.

Local streets and neighborhoods are littered with branches and downed trees. Some downfall is resting on power lines.

First responders last night rescued a woman north of Breck, when a tree fell on her car. She escaped unharmed.

Summit School District is open today. Every local school is now in session.

Down into the foothills, dozens of schools are closed in Clear Creek, Gilpin, Jefferson and Boulder counties. They were the epicenter of last night’s windstorm with widespread gusts over 90 miles per hour.

Ski Cooper near Leadville is closed this morning, according to a Facebook post. The ski area lost power to the mountain when power lines fell.

Arapahoe Basin briefly lost power overnight. Chairlifts are spinning this morning, but services at the A-Frame are delayed.
