Mountain Towns 2030 climate conference returns to Breck

The Mountain Towns 2030 climate conference is back in Breckenridge this fall, Oct. 7-8.

Leaders from mountain towns worldwide talk about challenges to the ski industry, inspired by global discussions about climate change and environmental policy. The Breckenridge conference is one of eight in five Western states, including Wyoming, Idaho, Utah and California.

Topics at the Breck conference are timely and robust, like:

  • “Building Wildfire Resilience in Mountain Towns”
  • “Preparing For a Changing Climate Through Planning for and Investing in Energy Resilience”
  • “Ski Areas as Climate Catalysts: Turning Influence into Advocacy”
  • “The Best of Mountain Mobility Innovations: Bus, BRT, Train, Gondolas and More!”
  • “Evaluating Thermal Energy Networks Within Your Community”

Most of these topics are top of mind for local officials. Several towns, including Vail, are exploring geothermal energy to heat sidewalks and more. Town of Breck is hoping to change visitor habits through its “B Like Breckenridge” campaign, promoting e-bikes and public transit with a free ap. Everyone is talking about a regional transit authority, bringing more buses to the neighboring counties where locals live. Even more experts are talking about wildfire resiliency and what comes next for Colorado, as we rely less on Federal assistance.

The Mountain Towns 2030 conference is open to the public. Check the schedule to attend.
